Muffled "Clicking" every 3 seconds?

Hey guys,

I've recently been hearing what can loosely be described as a muffled clicking/clunking that occurs every 3 seconds or so. It's metronomic. It's coming from in the dash area I think. I haven't had time to chek the engine bay, but I don't think I'll be able to hear anything from there.

Does not seem to increase with engine speed. Any ideas?

More than likely the heater valve/solonoids. its normal operation.

What SiR said. Try turning the heat knobs/controls to full heat or full cold, it should stop. If it stops, it's the heater valve for sure. Mine has been doing it for years but everything still works ok.

Good thread. I have this in my car too but have never been concerned with the problem.

Heater valve/solenoid makes sense, however, at least on my car it happens whether or not the heater is on.

Sounds about right. The sound doesn't start until the car is warmed up. Thanks for the info!
