Can bad spark plugs cause a check engine light

I have a 328is with a check engine light on I know that there are multiple reasons for an check engine light to come on, but would bad spark plugs cause this???

Yes, it could, or a coil pack , but plugs are cheap,so do them regardless

If they are bad enough, it could cause a mis-fire, the code will tell you the cylinder that mis-fired. But a mis-fire can be caused by several things.

If you have records of them being changed, just change em, they are cheap and will help your fuel mileage.

for me it was bad o2 sensor.
