Most if not all rental companies in Germany now have a clause that you're not covered if you take it on the Ring. So you're on the hook for the damage to the car AND the facility. I can only hope for his sake that the Vette was from a special Ring track car rental place but those are usually clearly track prepped crap boxes like Swifts and VWs.

That's an E30. I'm almost 100% positive from when I put 6x9 speakers in the rear deck it looked similar.

Looks like it was caused by those trucks on the track with just pylons out. You can see the vette crashing because a few cars came charging in and couldn't stop.

damn, that's too bad. I'd take a rental car around the ring for sure, but i'd never take that insurance risk, **** that.

There are now specialty rental places that will rent you a caged track rat, with upgraded brakes, tuned suspension and low end R comps (R888s). A buddy of mine rented a track prepped Swift to take on there recently, said it was a great little car - no balls but handled very well, tons of grip. I think it was rent4ring. Not cheap but relative to the price of going on the track, pretty reasonable.

They often have roadwork. When I was there they had road work on the main straight! They just put up signs with a reduced speed limit, like 80, so there shouldn't have been any danger. I haven't watch the videos but I bet there were slow speed limit signs posted.

Road work on a regular basis (fixing damaged armco fencing). Strict speed limits through construction zones. German rental cars not allowed on the track (they have records of licence plate patterns). No camera equipment either (they won't let you on if they see a GoPro on the car - you have to stick it on after you leave the entrance barricade).

I rented a "race car" from a local rental shop when I was there a few month ago (cost $500 for a 3hr session - tax, gas, lap tickets, insurance incl). Car handled and drove awesome (VW Scirocco) with R-Comps, Tune and BBK but deductable was $20,000 (15,000Euro) in case you crash it. They didn't offer an Vettes (I went to every rental place within 10km radius) but you could rent Exiges, GT3's and E92 M3's with a 50,000Euro deductable. (too rich for my taste - the way I drive rentals)

I managed a 8:56sec lap (bridge to gantry) in the Scirocco with traffic and a construction zone. The owner of the rental shop was surprised when I showed him my stop watch... shook his head and said "I don't vant to hear zings like zhis". LOL!
