It can be done but not easily. That's a very good plan man, by your next renewal you'll be able to get it for around 40$ a month. You can push past that if you want, but if you have a plan including data under 35$ a month, you'll get reviewed (often). Usually that means nothing, but they can flag your account (wont let you renew through regular retentions, manager will have to approve your new plan)

Dmitry,

with rogers LD minutes are LD minutes. If you're local and call LD, that uses your minutes. If you're roaming and someone calls you on your (non-local) number, that uses your LD minutes. Rogers doesn't have "home zones". If you are a rogers customer, you can make a local call ANYWHERE on the rogers network and it will be billed as local.

I've never paid for roaming in canada, and i've been coast to coast.
hmmm going to give it a try, my contract expired last year - got my "get outta jail free card"

200 + 100 week day minutes
free after 6

for 46 dollars.

and the best part of it is,

where ever i am in canada, say im in montreal , vancouver, w.e and any local call i make when i am there, works same as if i was in toronto making local calls. ( taking minutes away from my local air time )

Excellent plan! They have so many customers who don't have a clue about haggling for better plans and just continually resign basic offered to everyone plans that they can afford to give the small few who do actually expect more really good plans.

ya..it all depends on who you get tho.

the 1st time i called this woman probably wasnt getting any dick or something... i almost wanted to talk to her supervisor because she was very very very rude . and all i inquired was about my plan and how i can incorporate it so its better suited for my use.

Yes some are horrible to deal with, they act as if they're doing you a favor by even taking your call. Definitely the only way to go, call till you get what you want!

Congrats man, that's a great plan!

On a 3 year term, the difference between 47$ and 69$ a month is 792$.

My plan with rogers:
350 daytime
unlimited incoming
unlimited evenings and weekends from 6pm
unlimited international texting
6gb data
1000 ld minutes
caller id, voice mail, ring back, mobile back and all that shit thats included in the $20 value pack
for $68 taxes.

My line is maxed out on credits so the lady maxed out credits on my dad's line since she couldn't do it on mine.
His plan:
250 daytime
unlimited after 6pm
caller id
1000 ld minutes
for $20-$21 taxes in, it used to be $33 before she added credits

Wanted to update this thread as promised.

Today i:
-Downgraded my iphone to IOS 3.1.2 (IOS 4 is too slow on a 3G)
-Got it factory unlocked by rogers (if your contract is up, they'll do it for you for 50$)
-Installed Acrobits softphone, cracked the G.729A codec patch
-Got around Rogers VOIP blocking (they're lazy, and just block a few UDP ports.)
-Fixed one way audio NAT issue
-Configured Direct Inbound Dialing on the voip line. (Iphone can be asleep and will recieve calls)
-SIP migration set up (If my phone goes from wifi to 3G it will re-sync with the SIP gateway)

As it stands now, my phone is completely usable as voip over 3G. I'm still with rogers, but i'm probably going to switch to virgin data only soon.

G729a uses about 10.5kbps per direction of bandwidth. Average is about 29kbps/sec including all overhead. Latency is good on 3g, bearable on edge.

To do:
-I need to break the regular phone.app so callto: and other internal links don't try to make outbound calls using the real voice line.
-I don't really use SMS, but there's a solution for it called Heywire. Its 1.99$ a month for unlimited texting to "most any phone in USA, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, South + Central America and China" It includes a canadian number to receive/send texts from (but will not match your voice number).

In order to accomplish what i've done today you need
-Iphone (jailbroken = apps are all free, not jailbroken you need 17$ worth of apps)
-SIP account (freephoneline.ca has one, 50$ one time fee, free calling to most majour cities in canada, 1 cent a minute calling to rest of canada and north america)
-Settings in Acrobits Softphone are UDP for transport, and use ports from 100-650 (i'll try more ranges, the default 10000-655532 range will give you one way audio issues)

I dont really recommend this for everyone, as voip is still not as good as a real voice call. But i'm fed up with paying out my ass for cell service.

Assuming i use ~250mb a month of data (about average for me), and talk on the phone for 10 hours, my total cost would be 20$ (data) + 1.99$ (texting) + tax.

I am debating if it is worth ditching my HtC Desire Z AND picking up newer Smasung galaxy 2. I wanna a slimmer phone. If it is android, is it gonna be easy to install my co-pilot gps from my old memeory card on a new phone if I end up picking it up.

PM me if you wanna sell the Desire Z. I need a keyboard, and android looks fun (I have a BB torch now) My wife got the Galaxy S2 ... it's a damn nice phone for sure. Battaery problems at first (would only last 7 hrs!). After some ****ing around and removing shit, it now lasts 3 days, which is awesome for droids apparently.

You can get texting for free using TextPlus a free app in the appstore.

They even give you are free number so that you can receive SMSs from that number. I ended up with a (289) area code number, I should have selected a US number, i can't remember if there was an option for that.
