E30 brake line...help

...i accidently burst open the brake (foot brake) line today while pulling out an old park brake cable for a new one.


the bottom joint of the 3way pass underneath/beside the park brake cables.

few questions please.
i can see age all over the brake lines, even though they are intact is it worth replacing EVERY line? or just the injured portion?

has anyone had their entire brake lines on your e30 replaced? easy? hard?

and if i where to get this done at the dealership, just out of estimation how much would you guys think it would cost to have every brake line replaced?



i was ready to get the car on the road within 1 week...but BAM the line burst........ughhhh

my love for e30's is slowly disipating, but i love em so much haha
i aint a quitter thats for sure

Maybe its just me, but I don't understand which line you're talking about, and how did you burst a brake line by pulling an e-brake cable? In anycase, if its any of the inboard rear lines, they are a PITA to change, especially with the whole rear end in place. The lines that run along the trailing arms are pretty easy, just bend new ones the same shape as the old and replace. You should change any lines that look to be in bad condition, they will be the next ones to go.

I would imagine that a dealer would charge an arm and a leg to do any of the rear brake lines (they usually want to lower the subframe), but that's just a guess, doesn't hurt to ask....

The main brake lines, the long ones, are not available pre-made from any part supplier including BMW. they carry a few of the wheel lines and may have the split line from the junction T.

BMW sells the straight lines and you have to bend them, a real tricky job. I have just purchased stainless steel lines to replace ALL the brake lines and all my gas lines.

I have taken out all the old ones which I will use as my template,will machine dies for my bender and will heat and bend them. Apart from bending you need the bubble flare tool and fittings for the ends.

^^^true, bmw only sells them straight but if u get it from them they are already flared and come with the fittings for both ends.

i had one of the rubber lines burst just after the T junction i took it to a mechanic and he chaged me almost $200 to get that one piece changed, (that included $50 fo the rubber line from the dealership) i couldnt see where it burst i definetly couldnt reach it with the rear subframe in. just take it to a mechanic and see what he says but i dont know what line your talking bout either so fill us in.

When something gets that old it isn't a surprise you always putting out fires. the best thing to do is go over the car completely and see what needs fixing. Get it done and you'll get less surprises. otherwise, it's the nature of the beast no matter what vehicle you own that is old.

Even though this is an old post, for what it's worth when my rear brake line cracked due to corrosion I ran a new line from front to back and relocated the distribution block to a more convenient location.

I just dropped my whole rear end and found that the PO had done this as well, good idea IMO makes the lines much more accessible
