polishing rims

hey what are bmw e30 rims made out of? i have a alot of stuck up dirt there and i want to get rid of
what tools to use?

aluminum. what do you mean "stuck up dirt?" first get some wheel cleaner and a course wheel brush or equivalent - not wire! let the cleaner sit for about a min and brush and rinse. repeat the action as much as necessary. if it IS just dirt - elbow grease, time and cleaner. if the dirt you are talking about is "brake dust" it sounds as though it is caked on. Then you will be cleaning for a while. if it doesn't come off, good chance it is baked on and most likely the clear coat that was once on there is worn off due to heat and the reaction from the brake dust. best to post a pic but this is my hunch.

on my e30 the 14 inch bottlecaps was caked with brake dust and daily grime and no amount of elbow grease would take that stuff off.. What i did was i used the rim cleaner from bmw (very good stuff imo) left it soak for 5 mins on each rim, then used one of those plastic dish sponge (similar to SOS pad) and cleaned and washed the rim. Rim looks brand new.
