Distorted radio display pixels

Any one have any ideas on what could be causing my radio display to have intermittent pixelation problems and how to fix this? Sometimes the display is bright and works fine and other times it's hard to see as it appears some of the pixels are light while others dark (almost like rows of working and not working lights)? BMW says they can't really do anything about the display other than change out the entire radio - this makes no sense to me. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions.

they are right..the circuit board which responsible for this is toast..time for a new one.
Makes perfect sense, THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO FIX IT! So you'll buy a new one.

Do you have the regular BMW Business CD unit? Those should be relatively inexpensive on the used market if you end up needing a full unit. The LED circuit itself would be a pain to fix and might not be worth the costs involved.

Good luck!

I opened up a few up and fixed it, but, the lcd screen needs to be removed and replaced because it plugs into the CB. At least this is what I did for the model that has the slider function for bass/treble etc. e30 of course.
