Just joined - new 1M

Hey all,

Just picked up my AW 1M Coupe this past week. Can't wait to get past the 2000km break-in, but must say I'm already EXTREMELY impressed. I also drive a nicely modified R53 Mini Cooper S, and it's sooooo good to have the choice between a nice FWD or RWD.

Looking forward to joining the Toronto/Ontario community.

that's so sweet. check the "track junkies" section on here and come out to the autocrosses or driving schools and see what that thing is really capable of!

Thanks, guys - yah, those fat fenders give it such a pronounced stance. Totally sold on the look!

davericher20 - I'm a member of the BMWCC and used to autox with them for a few years around '04-'07. Also been doing at least one Mosport DE each year with my Mini, but I can't wait to get the 1M out there. I'm actually going to try Watkins Glen for the first time in September with the Gennessee Valley chapter, but haven't yet decided whether I'll take the Mini or the 1M - I just know the Mini so well right now.

Welcome! Interested to get a good review on it once you've had a chance to drive it a few thousand kms.

Had the 1M came an n/a engine I would have really considered it.

That's beautiful man! Enjoy it! Write up a review on it when you worked it in. Would love to hear what the pros and cons are from your point of view.

Just over 1100k on the odo so far - went a weekend road trip and racked up some good mileage. I still haven't made it past half throttle I don't think, and nothing above about 4k RPM either.

The power is amazing, and like I said, WOT is still to come. DSC intervenes a little too quickly, so I normally put it in M Dynamic Mode which is about halfway between full on and full off - allows for a little bit of tail wagging. It's quite easy to break the back end loose powering out of corners, so you really need to focus on throttle input.
There is some noticeable turbo lag, or maybe it's just delay from the drive-by-wire, but not as severe as I've noticed from a little bit of seat time in an N54 335i.

The ride is great - just enough feel of the road without being too harsh. This thing actually feels like a Crown Victoria to me coming from my Cooper S with H&R RSS Clubsport coilovers. Because I am so used to the Mini, I find the amount of feedback through the steering wheel to be lacking somewhat, and I find the clutch pedal way too light, but I'm sure I'll adjust over time.

Braking is absolutely stellar, as it should be with identical discs/calipers to an M3 but on a significantly lighter car. Haven't got to a point where I'd experience any fade, but it's likely not an issue.

So there are some initial thoughts - hand down, I'm loving this car so far. I've never experienced HP like this, and it's an absolute thrill.
