I get 600km on a full tank 65L. No vanos, automatic, 90% highway driving, medium grade gas.

Yea it's more than 65 litres in a full tank.

91 octane shell, I can squeeze 500km with moderate style driving, city and highway mixed. 450 with a heavy foot. Can't even imagine getting close to 600.

Maybe I need a tune up, or does 90% highway driving really bring the number that much higher on it's own?

ya highways do make a big difference , especially if ur jus cruising on the highway at 1 speed, theres always a point of speed on ur car where u feel the car pulling with very light amount of load

If you pull up the digital display of your amount of fuel in tank 1 and tank 2, it shows that one side holds 30L and the other 35L. Im sure you could squeeze a bit more but not good to fill to the cap.

I believe 7 Series hold 70L.

Cool

Good topic with this high gas prices, here is my 2 cents::idea, your findings may differ....lets agree to disagree.

Depending on the rearend (diff) ratio in your car, that has a major effect on milage, especially on the hiway. The touring and sport models have the 3.15 rearend, read not so good for good gas milage.

If you monitor the engine temp using the OBD Test#7, milage seems best when the engine runs in the upper temp range (104-108). Milage seem to get worst when the charateristic control on the thermostat brings the operating temp below 100 degrees C, maybe the DME richen the mixture.

On Shell 91, warm weather, combined city/hiway, driving very conservatively (non-agressive) I get ~450km on 55 litres. Alot less in the winter. On shell 89 the milage seem a few km less, but then again you pay a bit less.

I stand corrected, E39 does hold 70L.

I use the 15 litre hash mark as my minimum thats why I stated 55 litre in my post above,... so I'm not running on the dregs in the bottom of the tank.
