My vert... it's been a while.

Well, it's been about 6 years now since I stopped playing with my old 325e's. They were both over 360,000km, one was auto, 4 door, burgundrot metallic, and the other was schwarz, 5 speed, LSD, but they were both piles of shit that worked on day in and day out, swapped one engine over into the other, and finally I'd just had enough of them. I barely even have pictures of them, but they're not even worth showing.

Once winter of 2005 ended, I started my search for a new e30. I looked all over the GTA but all I could find were rusty sh*tboxes, not unlike the one I already had. I stopped into Chuck's Auto, and he had a couple of e30 verts in the back that were for sale, which at first I wasn't really interested in, but eventually I went back and bought this: a 1991 318i cabrio. Diamondschwarz Metallic, 5 speed, 175,000kms, super clean interior, but not really any options at all. Not even airconditioning. The top was in great shape, and as far as I can tell, is original to the car. Here it is the first week I had it. I drove it down to Ridgetown Ontario to see my Girlfriend and took this picture of it on the shore of Lake Erie, in Erie Beach, Ontario.

I didn't do anything to it for the first year or so. The first thing I did was install a brand new set of fogs, and an "is" lip. I saved up to buy new suspension basically (as you can tell, she's monster truckin'). Intrax springs, Koni adjustable shocks all around, Z3 reinforcement plates, and that's about it. Upgraded the shifter with a UUC short shift kit, and threw a Dinan chip in it, which I picked up used from Turner Motorsports. That's really all I did to it for the first few years, until I had to let it sit for almost a year as I searched for a differential to replace the one that I apparently destroyed. I found a 4.10 open, which was easy enough, but I didn't really want to put it in. I held out long enough to pick up a 4.27 LSD from Richie, and threw that in the car just before putting it into storage again for last winter.

Sooo, this spring, I actually got around to putting insurance back on the vert because the bloody coupe has a fried clutch, and still does. So, I've bought a few things that I'd love to throw on it, but I feel that I need to have it repainted before I comletely turn it into an 80's cheese mobile. I've already put the red taillight plate filler on, a cool old Nardi steering wheel, and some old school Recaro seats, and I scored a hardtop for $500!! Also threw on my old BBS Junior Lines with a little bit of spacer action. I'm working the whole charcoal grey colour scheme for now. The cheesy part will involve me putting on a set of Kamei Rims and a Kamei body stripe set, and a rare Hella trunk lid spoiler, which will be painted white to match the rims. I'm also considering painting the grills white, and plastidiping the hardtop in white as well. Let me have my fun.

Here's the future pieces:
Kamei X1 rims (essentially Centra 8's) 15" x 7" et26. They're a little beat up, but they'll be refinised at some point.

Kamei X1 stripe set, complete, with original box, and instructions. If I can find the 3 piece rear spoiler and the front wind splits, you better believe I will be mounting them too. Forget about the eye lids and side skirts/pods.

Basically, I want it to look like this, only diamondschwarz, and lower:

The old Hella spoiler will have to do for now until I can find/afford the three piece spoiler.

In the mean time, here's a few pictures of what is looks like today. Some of you saw it at Mosport last weekend, but it looked like ass because it probably hadn't been washed in about a year.

Thanks guys. I don't know when I'm going to have time to plastidip stuff, but it's going to have to take a back seat for now until I can get the coupe back up and running.

I'm hoping to pull off a clean 80's look without overdoing it, and without looking tacky. Not sure if can be done or not, but I'll have fun trying.

Below: Sorta what I'm going for, except I'm hoping the stripe will blend better with the black car, and will offset nicely with the Kamei rims.

I won't be selling them. I wouldn't be able to find another set, and I really love how they look. They're direct fit, which is sometimes hard to find, and nobody else has them on an e30 as far as I have ever seen. BBS never sold them in North America. I forgot to put the centre caps on before I snapped these

The definition of '80's look' is overdone tackiness! Can't have one without the other...

Kidding aside, I think on a dark car the stripes and spoilers will look good since they won't stand out too much.

Looking forward to seeing this progress.

I'm going to have to find some horrible 80's sunglasses to wear while I drive it too.
