Nice to meet you!
I never got that helmet thing. Why would you need one? Everything inside a car is soft, worse case you get a bruise or something.
And belts only get in the way, it's so uncomfortable to drive with them on. As soon as I leave the pit lane I undo them. So yes, safety IS over rated.
The reason we have all these so-called safety items is evil lawyers.

Do me a favour, next time you smack your car into a wall, make sure your headlights are off, you aren't wearing a helmet, and you removed the seat belt for weight purposes.
