Man, 18, faces three charges in stunt-driving investigation

Friday, April 15, 2011 - 5:07 PM
Traffic Services
416-808-1900

On Thursday, April 15, 2011, officers from Traffic Services were conducting speed enforcement on Humberline Drive, near Huddersfield Road.

It is alleged that:

- at 2:11 p.m., the accused was driving his 2007 BMW at 125 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 18-year-old man has been charged with:

1) Speeding 125 km/h in a 50 km/h zone,
2) Stunt Driving- 50 km/h or more over,
3) Racing - Marked departure.

The accused's driver's licence has been suspended for seven days. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The alleged offences were committed in a primarily industrial area with many slow-moving commercial vehicles, multiple TTC stops and driveways. Humberline Dive is used as by-pass between Finch Avenue West and Albion Road. For those reasons, active speed enforcement is utilized to maintain the safety of road travel in the area.

This year, the Toronto Police Service has charged 75 people under the Province’s Stunt Racing legislation.

Rarely does someone actually get charged with this nonsense, and especially not for $10k. It typically settles as a careless driving charge with the added bonus of having a suspension on your record.

The biggest winners are 1) the towing company, they get $700+ for nothing but hitching the car and parking it for a week and 2) the insurance companies who will sky rocket your rates for the suspension+careless charge. Cops get maybe $300 for the careless and have to spend time/money prosecuting you too.

I hate Ontario.

yeah but any retard that gets caught doing 50+ over in a 50zone desserves it. I mean cmon, 50 zone's are usually community area's with high volume of pedestrian traffic.

I can understand 75 over on the highway, but in an industrial park? With toronto's finest truck drivers? That's suicide.

I live near by to where this happend. This backroad doesn't usually have high amounts of traffic and you get tempted to go faster cause its so straight and long.

Even if dude was on max, doubt he would admit to it.

Can you say "TTC Metro Pass" lol?

Here in Ottawa, all the police are protecting parliament, so roaming around streets is fine

he deserves a ticket or a few but not this particular law. Sorry , but its just complete and utter bs.

thats why, as pointed out that barely anyone has been actually been charged with it in court.

and the avg age of people caught is like almost 40 yrs old...not "punk kid racers" that this knee jerk reaction crap was put through to try and stop.

like a couple kids racing is a plague on the road. nothing compared to the majority of people out there and the stats when they come in from time to time for this bunk, supports it.

but even still its asinine. They are gonna do away with pot cause its unconstitutional ...or at least rethink the laws yet this law is still around, even after it was ruled unconstitutional by a few judges...because it is. total crock

gotta love scape goats. no no, the general publics horrid driving skills arent the issue. its a handful of "street racers" zomg . please

Going 50 over in a 50 zone is excessive, especially on that street. I used to live near that road, and drove on it regularly. 100km/h+ is too fast for that road.
