control arm torque

when installing new control arms,should they be torqued with the car under load or with the wheel s off the ground.i know swaybars should be torqued with the car under load so there is no preloading.would this apply to control arms or any other suspension components?

The sway bar end links typically have a ball joint (except for the ones on the rear sway bar for the E30s). How do you end up preloading the sway bar if there's a ball joint? And unless you are working on a hoist that you drive onto how would you go about torquing the control arm nuts? The outer ball joint will be inside the rim and the inner ball joint is hard enough to get at when the car is jacked up. Usually in order to hit the required torque value you need to put a jack under the ball joint and jack the car up slightly to load the ball joint otherwise when you go to torque it it just spins. The only thing I've heard about doing under load is installing the CAB. I've heard people recommend that when you install a new CAB into the control arm you should put it back on the car and have the car on the ground within half an hour or so and let it sit so the bushing can seat properly. This is usually because those guys use dish soap to slide the busing on and once it dries up it's a pain to maneuver the bushing.

i have a set of ramps.thiis would allow me to have the car sitting with the suspension under load.i installed the new control arms and after i tightened the nuts and took the car for a drive,i started wondering if i should have done it with the car on the ramps.
i didn't torque the nuts down because i couldn't get in there with the torque wrench.even as i was tightening the nut down.the ball joints were spinning.there is a hex head set screw in the top of the ball joint shaft that has to be held which would not allow me to get in there with a conventional socket and torque wrench.
i'm going to get a crow's foot crows foot.jpg so i can torque the nuts properly.

I just placed a jack uder each control arm and lifted it a bit before tightening all the bolts. I have no idea how you are planing on fitting a torque wrench in there lol
