Hey guys. I've heard about the M&M Friday's, googled for them... came up with you guys. I don't own a bimmer, wish I did - could never afford the maintenance and repairs.
Instead, I have a hatchback 5 door focus. At least it's european??
Anyway... my car club (focuscanada) has its presence in the GTA, not Ottawa so I don't yet know who or what club my and my car would fit into.
Either way, i'll see you guys out there some Friday coming up!
edit: and yes, eww civics. No rice on my car! I cracked my front bumper on a snow bank from avoiding an SUV that cut me off... so a EUDM bumper is on its way! A little about the car, I plan on dropping it on coilovers and eventually I'd like to have upwards of 350-400fwhp! I'd like to keep the body clean with no crazy body kits or anything of that sort. I'd like it to look modded, yes, but nothing over done so that it can retain some of the sleeper look

Welcome to the board!
You don't need a BMW, just a bunch of car guys who enjoy their toys.
You wouldn't want 300-400fwhp, only because it would never work. You could only use 2/3rd of that power to actually get you anywhere. My Mazda is 263hp and from first to 3rd gear, it just spins and you have to hold on to the steering wheel because of torque steer.
Hoping to see some of the forum members this Friday. I'll be the only Mazdaspeed 3 that's black with a hood scoop!

Hey! I knwo for the M&M Friday's I don't need a BMW... but on this forum I think it'd make me fit in more.
And yep... I know. And I'm still going for 3-400fwhp. I'd rather have too much than not enough. Worst case is for street use it can be tuned down, and strip use it can be changed to a more powerful tune. Speaking of strips... do any of the Ottawa drivers ever go to any strips around the area? I am organizing with the focus crew, for the few of us who live in Ottawa to go out to Luksville Dragway and do some passes down the 1/4mile. I realize I won't make it through in less than 16 seconds but it's for the fun of it (and I need some base numbers to work with. Already have the dyno numbers)

I think I'm going to get the e30 out this week if it actually stays above freezing. Dunno about friday yet as I'm WAY knee deep in projects, but I'm gonna try!

If the weather is nice I might be there on the bike, which happens to be a Honda.
If not I suppose I could come in the BMW

Any bike trumps any non-BMW car. A Beemer would trump all though.. hmm.

Not a hater, just a bigger fan of the BMW brand than other stuff.
My wife's last car was a Mazda 3, it was great. But her Mini really beats the 3 hands down. Never driven a Speed3 though.. maybe that will change??

Too much torque steer... I've driven the speed3 before as well - it's a good handling car (as is the base 3), but the power delivery leaves something to be desired IMO.
Now an AWD speed6 would be interesting to try...
And the Mazdaspeed Miata is just insane... especially when it's decked out like that red one at AutoX - Naresh let me take it out on one of the last days... it still gets my blood pumping when i think about it

My sister has the 3 GT hatchback.. it handles great for a FWD for sure, but you can't compare a Miata to a 3. Sports car vs. hot hatch is not a fair comparison!
I guess the new Focus hot hatch has some electronic wizardry in the diff to help with torque steer. Years ago I had a supercharged GTP which had a magnetic anti-torque steer system which simply felt like someone else grabbing the wheel from you.

Good luck with that. I did some research on Mazdaspeed3s a while ago. Hope that you have the extended warranty.....
