Tutorial: Side Intake

Next you will want to decide where the intake will be.

We are going to create a new layer by pressing: (shift+ctrl+n)
Name the layer outline and click ok.
Now you want to use the polygonall lasso tool to trace out where the intake will be...

Next we need to make an outline of where the vent should be
Go to the menu at the top: Edit > Stroke
(1 pixel on the inside, of the darkest blue you can get on the and check off inside)

Now we have to create the actual intake (shadow)

- Create another new layer and name it "Shadow" by pressing (shift+ctrl+n) just like before

- Now you need to get you airbrush tool out. Have it set to about 65 pixels with a SOFT edged brush on 100% opacity, and sometimes you have to experiment with that.

- Make a swipe down the side so it looks like this.

Making the shadows more realistic.

- Take your "Smudge" tool set it to about or whatever you prefer 40-65 pixels with the Darken option (experiment with those some of them are weird) and start to spread the shadows outward. You now should have something like this.

-If your shadow has gone weird simply go to edit>step backwards, until you get to your non messed up point.

Last step is to get rid of the outline.
- Take your eraser tool on the left hand corner on your first created layer (outline) and take out the parts with no shadows around them. Erase over it several times until the whole outline is gone.
Your final product should look something like this :
