Thanks! yup the car is specifically being built for autoX/lapping. Hoping to get into time attack in the futur as well when the budget permits.

The videos are most likely shawns in his monster e36! im getting a gopro this year though so hopefully we'll get some good footage of some chasing

Just a wire brush. worked great! only took about an hour and a half for all 24. exhaust side valves were a little tougher than the intakes though

I have (almost) all the lapping done.

There are 3 valves that i have left to do. 2 exhaust valves in cylinder 5 (cylinder that had low compression) and 1 in cylinder 6. i am definintely going to need 1 new valve for cylinder 5 since i cant work it down enough, and the other ones will take quite a bit of work. this definitely confirmed my belief that this was the issue.

This is the valve i will need to replace. After 30 min of lapping and its still only working the one side:

So i didnt get as much done this weekend as i was hoping to. Started off, as Shawn mentioned, figuring out he cracked a pistion in the m50 block last year. this explains the bent valve and low compresion in cylinder 5.



Then i realized i didnt get the right gasket kit for the head rebuild. which means i couldnt get the head back together. so i decided to at least get the bottom end ready to go. i had to swap everthing over from shawns m50 block to the spare m50 block we have. Of course i first had to paint it Eurotrash colours







I have the right gasket kit coming in thursday so hopefully have the engine ready by next weekend.

A bit of an update.

Installed the e36 steering rack with new tie rods.

Top is e30 rack/ bottom is e36 rack

Finished up the engine:

Got all the valves back in, head bolted gown and timing chains on. Also put the e34 oil pan on.




Bolted on the clutch/flywheel and ZF 5 speed tranny:

Took a bit of work to get her fitted just right but we manage to get it in and back on the ground friday night. thanks for the help Jamie and Shawn

A few kinks to work out. headers wont work, too close to the subframe. so looks like ill be picking up a set of famous e-bay headers.

If the headers don't fit, why risk trying another set of headers that might not fit either?














Just go turbo.

It's the flange on the headers/downpipe that hit the subframe - with the long-tube ebay headers, the're no flange there, so it should fit nicely

... I'll let Chris explain his turbo plans...

haha yea its where the flange is on the stock headers that cause the problem so longtube header should work..

And there are turbo plans.. just not this year
