I am considering keeping the wheels that came with the car instead of getting basketweaves. I like the look and the size but I think the tire may be a bit too big. They are 205/55 16. The ride height is a little off-roadish.

I need to get some new tires in Spring, so could I just buy a lower profile tire? How much lower can/should I go? I used a tire size calculator and it said the closest to stock would be 205/50 but I am wondering if I could go lower.

I am planning on getting H&R Race springs with Bilstein Sport Shocks but I am worried about clearance. I think there would be a drop of at most 1.8" so would I be okay with my current wheels and tires and if not what would I need to do to correct it?

If anyone has 16" wheels on their car I would love some advice.

A 1.8" drop from stock ride height is nothing to worry about you'll still have plenty of clearance. Right now I'm probably sitting close to 2.5" drop with my coilovers and don't have any problems getting around. For reference I'm on 205/55-15 tires.

That is a 2.5" drop? I thought that was how my car would look but I guess it won't be that low.

I do want handling to be the priority and not just having a car that is as low as possible, and from what I read this would be a good setup (best compromise) but is there another setup I should be looking at that handles as well but is a little lower? I am not really worried about ride quality because I won't be commuting too far. I looked at other E30's with this setup and they looked pretty low. do they cut coils off?

I wasn't planning on going to coil overs because I've read that unless you are going to the track a lot or need to raise and lower your car then they are not necessary.

I am going to search for some photos of E30's with some 205/45 16 tires to see how it looks. I guess I am used to a lower profile tire because of my last car.

No, enthusiastic driving on iffy roads, but nothing extraordinary. Tires are just too tall. Those are 205-55-16s, by the way, not 15s.

That looks good. I will pick up some drop hats when I do my suspension.

Anybody know a good place to buy H&R Race, Bilstein Sports, and drop hats? I doubt there is much variation in price. Anyone local? Turner Motorsport sells the the springs and shocks for about $800. Drop hats are about $100?

Drop hats can be had for the cheap from the dealership. Stock E9x upper spring cups = e30 drop hats. not quite 15mm, but pretty close. I think they're like $15 a piece at most. I'll be chucking a set onto the vert in the spring to get rid of some gap. I could get you the part number if you want, but you could find it pretty easily on realoem.

Some parts should be waiting for me when I get home today! I'll take a picture when I get home.

I checked the tracking number and it seems they were signed for by my neighbour. I would be worried but she's about 75 years old and I doubt she's got an E30 project kicking around that she would need parts for!
