Always putting the M42 down, eh John!? M20= boat anchor, sewing machine, paper weight, timing belt snapping, slow reving, under achieving, hanging out over the front wheels hunk of slag. I poo more technology than an M20, and with more compression.

My shit doesn't have a distributor cap, and has more than one camshaft. I also shit regularly as my poo valves don't need adjusting every 5000kms.

^^Hey Scott I seem to remember you saying (and I quote) "whoa, this does have a bit more power, I could get used to this" when you drove my car the other day! LOL. Didn't think that would come back to bite you in the ass did you? LOL! Call it what you will but low tech or high tech who gives a shit the M20 is faster and handles every bit as well as the M42. Are you going to knock GM for having a 500+ hp Pushrod V8 in its Corvette Z06? That is even more low tech than an M20. Oh and by the way, the M20 is a revver as well. Some decent torque low end but most power is up at the top. Shocks most people who don't know. Just thought I'd share that with you.

faster schmaster. I knew that would bite me in the ass the second I said it, hahah! To tell you the truth, nothing sounds sweeter that a straight 6 pulling through the gears. I just feel that it's always my duty to defend the M42. Just like Richie said; buy which ever isn't rotted, and worry about the engine later. Day to day you won't notice the difference in engines... it's only head to head that you notice that the giant shit brick actually makes more power, dispite the fact that half the time it's actually just dieseling. All in all, neither is a bad choice, and neither has ever picked up a chick. Only dudes will like your e30... unless it has diving boards, and then everyone will hate it.

well I also remember someone saying how surprized they were when they drove my 318is to his house last winter to store the car, that being said, chip and 4.27 diff really helped the car, and maybe the total lack of an interiour!!!
oh and forgot, what car came in second at the autox this year by what, less then a point..... did it have an M20.....nope......

kijiji, craigslist, autotrader. It's not like there's a lot full of e30's or e36 for sale, and depending on your budget, it could take you months to find the body style, engine and tranny combo you're looking for. It's slim pickin's for decent e30's these days, especially in Canada/Northern US.

Your mom's minivan is free, fills itself up with gas and pays its own insurance somehow, won't break down and is a mobile motel room, esp with tint.

What happened to that grey 4dr for sale in Guelph? I saw the kijiji ad a couple days ago and it looked decent.

The best advise so far was; "get the one that isn't falling a part".

I'd go with rich, get whatever has less rust.
Going fast is nice, but you won't have your license for long if that's your plan. It doesn't take much to screw your insurance either.
