They were just too scared to win. They dominated the game the entire first two periods and then fell apart after that. Plus Canada's goalies have been weak all tournament and tonight was just another example. They were shutting Russia out in the first two because they were really limiting their chances on net. But once the 3rd started they weren't limiting the chances and they pot 2 in 11 seconds. The second one being a VERY weak goal. Guaranteed if they had any half decent goalie he would have saved that second goal and it wouldn't have gotten too far out of reach from Canada because Russia wouldn't have had so much momentum. It was really hard to watch after seeing the first two periods.

They wanted a repeat of the Sweden game. Poor goaltending, questionable defense coverage and no more intensity from the forwards. I think the goalie should have be taken out when the game was tied just like what Russia did.

that was a complete meltdown its funny because when the second period ended i thought, in hockey a 3 goal lead isn't always that significant. at least the game turned out to be exciting.

Russia were the comeback kids all tournament. Canada was trying to protect a lead when they should have continued to be aggressive on the forecheck. We looked very complacent in the third. I actually said to my buddies, "Watch, Russia's gonna score here - hopefully that'll wake them up." I was midway through the sentence when they scored their first goal (so now it's my fault we lost cause i jinxed it, lol). After that, we all had that feeling like we knew what was gonna happen, which is what must have happened on Canada's bench as well. The thing that really surprised me was how silent the crowd got during the meltdown. I think everyone had the same feeling!

Oh, and you can't blame Visentin for the loss. He was very solid the last two games and there's only so much a goalie can do when the team in front of him has gone for a shit.

Overall, it was still a great tournament to watch. I'm glad the Swedes were denied a medal - they demonstrated that they can neither win nor lose with any grace or class.

And to finally answer the OP's question: I wouldn't say luck, but momentum. Russia never gave up, got the ball rolling in their direction when they needed to and just fed off it. Even though I was pissed, you gotta respect their determination. I wish I could have understood what all those kids were yelling to the camera during the celebration, cause it was pretty funny.

I'm glad those Russian kids won a medal, they'd never be able to get by on their looks alone.

Well, with all respect to Canadians, Russia is the better sport nation. They play all sorts of sports. They are always in the Champions League, basketball and not. You ve' got to look at the bigger picture.

I would not take anything away, but they just focus on one sport and when they lose, it feels quite bad. That is the way I see it.. lol

It sort of reminds me of our Adriatic basketball league where those foxy Croats want to keep up with Partizan Belgrade. You can can see their guy celebrating the win without knowing that the other team scored.
