Front Licence Plate

What are the rules for displaying this? I have a SUPER FUHRAZE Euro plate in my sights that I want on my actual front spot and then put the other Ontario plate in the window? Maybe in the passenger visor and flip it down when need be.

I can't get a definitive ruling on Ontario law/bylaw.

anything but the front plate in the proper spot (no passenger window, no additional europlates) under or near the front plate will usually land you a ticket.

So why can't you say it's decorative badging vs a legal license plate? I understand the part where you are required in Ontario to display an Ontario license plate on the front but not on the dash or anywhere within the cabin.

Yeah, it doesnt make any sense. When I put my M bumper on my car I tried to roll for about a week without any front plate and was pulled over once and given a "warning" and told a few other times throughout the week by cops to get a plate on it.

My question is: what cop sits out front of a Wendy's waiting for the owner of the car to come out from eating his chili and tells him to get a front plate on the car or its a ticket next time? lol

Here is the regulation for Ontario.

"The number plates for a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle or a motor assisted bicycle, shall be attached to and exposed in a conspicuous position on the front and rear of the motor vehicle. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 628, s. 9 (3)."

The plate definitely needs to be there but looks like the cops are free to use their own judgment whether or not the plate is in a "conspicious" position. So you might get a cop that will give you a ticket, then you might get a cop that won't.

I think I will roll with it then, I have not had a front plate on my car now for about a month and so far nothing bad.

I just HATE the front plate. Thanks for the research there 1bmw1! That could be easily fought in a court.

Yep, you'll get a ticket for not displaying the proper plate on the front... So not even a ruo plate with the same number. A friend of mine even got a ticket for have a euro plate under his Ontario plate.

Think of this though... If Ontario would delete the front license plate but yet charge the same amount as they do for new plates, imagine how much extra money the government could save. No extra labor, no need for extra materials such as paint, metal, etc, they would also save on shipping costs in the long run.

I've never run a front plate on my car cause it's hideous (4 + years)....I've never had a problem in the GTA but have received 3 tickets in bradford each on seperate occasions.
