That would be a lease price, there is no indication on lease term and cancellation fees if any.

What would be the cost to purchase a transponder outright?

I don't think that is possible.

I think that the owners of the 407 must believe that the only way to keep it clear of traffic so that we continue to love using it - is to keep people who can't afford it off of it. I am fortunate that I can expense all work related travel including tolls - so as long as the traffic levels are low, I can't say that I mind how much they *need* to charge.

Another reason not to use it. I will not take it because of cost and principle. I'm completely disgusted that the gov sold it to a foreign company. At the very least if these are the ridiculous rates that are charged then they would be going into our coffers, not a foreign co. if they didn't sell it. I believe it was the Mike Harris gov that sold it (please correct me if I'm wrong) but they should be personally held accountable for making decisions like that just to make their fiscal policy look more rosey that it actually was because they increased revenue (for that year) by showing the sale price in their books............Bu@#$%it is what I say.

this is stupid to get charged at the direction you are heading..

Expect a bunch of cars to be driving backwards.

Yes you read that correctly: depending on what direction your travelling at what time of day you will be charged a premium for the privledge.

As well: before if they could not tell where you entered or exited you use to get charged for "one exit". Now if they fail to read your plate on entry or exit they look at your "average trip length" per month and charge you accordingly.

Your bill will be so complicated you'll have pretty much no way to fight it in case of a billing dispute...

Awesome~ can't wait to say goodbye to those last few of my hard earned dollars I still possess..
Thats the 407 Happy New Year's greetings to those that travel the 407..
rate increase announced in today's Toronto Star....

Its really expensive to travel 407 even with transponder.....glad I dont have to use that toll road....

People that don't use the highway will think/say what you do.

But the 407 is the best highway in the GTA, period.

It's well maintained, if there is an issue it's fixed immediately, there are a ton of lanes and they are always expanding. You can drive faster then on any other highway and not get booked (avg. speed on the 407 even during rush hour is like 130+). When it snows, it's plowed and salted right away.

There are tons of things that they do to keep that highway in tip top shape, that's what you pay for. Unlike our greedy ass gov't who taxes us out the a$$hole but we have craters for pot holes, etc..

Too bad they were overshadowed by the idiots whose only goal was to end up looking cool in their friend's over-photoshopped internet blog about how oppressed they are in one of the best countries in the world.
