Changes to the 407 billing in 2011

Another shot in the nuts coming our way for 2011: TBA shortly....

- No transponder will cost you a $15.00 min surcharge
- Pricing will have 3 tiers: peak time, peak direction, late night

Yes you read that correctly: depending on what direction your travelling at what time of day you will be charged a premium for the privledge.

As well: before if they could not tell where you entered or exited you use to get charged for "one exit". Now if they fail to read your plate on entry or exit they look at your "average trip length" per month and charge you accordingly.

Your bill will be so complicated you'll have pretty much no way to fight it in case of a billing dispute...

Awesome~ can't wait to say goodbye to those last few of my hard earned dollars I still possess..

and to boot the peoples of ontario's tax money initially paid for the building of the road.

Leased to a private consortium in 1999, Highway 407 was formerly planned as a 400-series provincial freeway to bypass the Toronto segment of Highway 401, the busiest highway in North America.[4]

wow! serious? where did you read that. thanks to the gov't to sell it at a cheap rate to a private foreign company with freedom to set whatever rates they want. and with the state of the 401 they can.

I've been thinking about what our breaking point will be. For example, as i'm sure some of you guys are aware, in France they are trying to raise the retirement age a few years and people are losing their shit. In the UK, they are trying to raise tuition and students are burning down the offices of political parties.

I always wonder what it will take for people here in Canada to finally get out and fight back... or if we will continue to allow corporations and government to take as much as they want whenever they please, while they continue to **** everything up... i.e. $1,000,000+ for the G20 summit.

For those who use the 407 regularly, the photo video toll is a non-issue since they'd be using transponders anyway and the peak/off-peak tiers is not that much different than what exists now.

It sounds like the biggest change for 407 users will be the way they address unknown entry points. If this is true, then while it's probably a fair guess for the 407 users who use it consistently and regularly, others will face an uphill battle proving this, as you mentioned, in billing disputes.

Nice to see others thinking this way. In canada we are a bunch of spineless douchebags who will happily keep bending over for this.

Divide the cost of using the 407 by the time you save on it. Multiply that by 60 and and see if it is < or = to what you make per hour.

Maybe my math is off but you get my point. Like some pople drive on it saving like 30 min cosing them $30 and they make $15/hr. Morons.

^^^ Who cares... Your other option is taking the 401. No thanks.

People spend money on all kinds of stupid things, but the 407 most of the time a stress-free drive even during rush hour.
