E60 - Questions - Arm Rest

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a 2006 525i. One of the things that i keep wondering about since I don't know what that is.
Please see the pics bellow. It is located in the arm rest under neath the second compartment that opens.

i didn't get a manual with the car, but i did download one from the web, i didn't find any reference for this....

it's for the HVAC air. keeps the area cool/warm depending on setting for your temp.

keeps those chocolate bars from melting in the summer or my pack of gum from freezing in the winter.

not really....about the most useless feature of the car. second to the stupid blank fillers for what would have been bumper reflectors.
