although the vent is a good location for gauges..how do you stop air flow from coming thru the ductwork?

now that i have the assembly out, i started to look at that.

im thinking i might try to remove the air duct inside the dash to, air would still come threw but wouldnt be directed right out that vent.

or just tape it- plug it with something, itll just force air out in other locations. i dont have ac so im not stressing about air vents.

well at the moment ill be putting an aem wideband, and a vdo boost gauge. i might just crack and order all aem. im hoping to be able to fit 3-4 of them there. and hide whatever else into the glove box.

i have to make a new bracket today tho, i measured the other one out to fit inside the inner assembly. so ill do that this after noon

so i bought some more material today.

i got some plastic 3M bondo. ive been playing with it all day, seems like it will work good.

i went to canadian tire to get a 2 1/16 drill bit. they only had 2 1/8 bit. i know its only a 16th difference, but will it make a difference when fitting the gauges?

i wouldnt think so, but you never know.

its better for the gauges to be snug than have the holes too big and fly out when you boost!

if you find the guages are a little too loose, you can always wrap the gauge with 1 or more layers of electrical tape to fit snug.

good call on the electrical tape, when i was there i was thinking a 16th isnt that much. Than started remmeber the trouble my friend had with gauges spinning and popping out. and i bet that was a 16th or so extra.

im just about done cutting all the holes, im gonna screw it in and add a small layer of that plastic bondo. try and blend everything in

so im sure this picture will turn out huge,

is there a way to make picture size smaller while its captured in the camera?

or will i always have to resize them?

anyway, looks alright, i dont think i like the blue. probably jsut bomb it black.

fits perfect, i think once i get all the lines ran im going to add alittle black plastic bondo around the seems to make it look better.

anyway, what do you think?

Look pretty good. I would suggest perhaps putting some kind of rubber trim around the outer edge of the plexiglass. like the stuff you use for door guards. This will make it look neater and also help fill minor gapping between the dash and the plexy.

This thread reminds me of the gauge pod I tried to make a few years back. I hacked up a stock vent casing, and started to fiberglass it but lost interest.... Maybe one day I'll make another one.

that looks interesting. I wonder if one could buy a molded piece like that already and then do some minor fitting to make it work. I figure take the dimensions of the opening down and find one close to it and install it and seal any gaping with some trim?

Im actually going to use some black plastic bondo once i get it fitted into the dash. there will be some what of a lip on the top, so im going to blend it, and probably spray everything black.

craz an, that looks pretty good. I dont really have any expirence with fiber glass or i would have tried it that route. And im being some what lazy,
