check engine light

Hey guys,

So I'm driving my 2004 X3 on the 417 this morning and I'm doing about 90km/h, I hit the gas not floored but i did hit it to pass granny in front of me. Did ok for like 5 seconds and then felt like I hit rumble strips.

The check engine light came on and the car was shaking at any attempt to accelerate.

I pulled to the side of the highway and shut it down. Let it sit for 5 minutes, turned it back on and the check engine light was off and it was running fine.

Any thoughts?

I bet one of the codes would be "fuel trim, bank x".

Its probably still stored in the DME. If its its running fine now don't worry about it. If you'd like to pull out the codes, let me know, I'll help.

Lots of factors can set the fuel trim code: MAF sensor, vacuum leak, O2 sensor, low fuel pressure...

There was an E46 yesterday at the shop with the exact situation as yours. He was passing a car and shortly after the check light got on.
