Wow nice work on your build just read it all

Also Where did u get the fender flares for the e36? And how did you cut out the quarter panel? my quarter panels are starting to rust so im thinking of options to fix it. Fender flares wouldn't look to bad

Thanks for the compliments! it's been a blast working on the car so far and I can't wait to get it back out in the spring!

My flares are 240sx flares that I got from bings.ca. I think he's in the Toronto area. Anyways great prices and great service. To cut the quarter panels out, I just traced out the flare, move the line a couple inches lower, then took an air grinder to it. It was tough because of the multiple layers, but turned out good in the end. Good luck!

I took a look through here and the car looks great. But all this for autocross? Seriously? Like, the driving in 1st and 2nd around pylons?

I'd seriously consider getting out on the track dude, this is a fairly legit car.

Dude, don't knock what you don't know. The Ottawa auto-x scene is pretty vibrant, very competitive and anyway Shawn does track this car heavily.

Lol ... I guess you haven't had Shawn blow by you in this beast yet at Mosport or Calabogie, huh? Or maybe he did it so fast that you didn't notice

Well I was told he got kicked pretty hard by a buddy of mine in the dry. Then again with a rematch in the rain.

I'll be tracking my M50 E30 a bit this year hopefully! Maybe we'll all have to have a friendly BMW battle or two!

I've been to about a half dozen events, participated in half of them. I've never seen Shawn get "kicked pretty hard" by anyone. If anything, its a back and forth with good competition.

Who's your buddy?

First of all, thank you guys for standing up for me while I've been busy getting my ass handed to me in the ice race. That being said, Jamie & Chris managed to cover for my mistakes and we ended up coming 3rd in FWD (6th overall) in a car we bought yesterday and have never driven.

Malcolm - I have a few things to say to you... here we go:

1. I do track this car. I'm surprised that in going through the thread, you didn't see the multitude of videos of me on a track. I won the Calabogie Cup last year, and have done several lapping days (including the BMWCCA event at Calabogie last summer), etc. Plus, you have also seen what my end goal was.

2. This was my 3rd summer racing/building this car - my ultimate goal is to end up in road racing, but I want to hone my skills first, as well as put some money aside before I commit to that. I don't know if you understand the financial commitments to lapping/road racing compared to autox, and how beneficial it is to start with autoX before you end up on a track.

3. Who is your friend? I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I honestly can't think of anyone who has "kicked me pretty hard." wet or dry.

4. have fun with your m50 e30. Chris has built one and it's pretty awesome. If you're half the driver he is, yes we might have a friendly battle.

5. This summer, my main focus will be the gentlemen's GT racing at CMP. entry level wheel-to-wheel racing, with point-by passing. Also, I'm signed up for Carl's AISA race school in the spring.

See you at the track.... maybe?

Yeh, I'm excited to see Chris' running. I've been watching his build and it's going to be pimp!

I don't want to start arguments, I just had a BMW friend who had mentioned you before I ever met you. I think this was back when your car was a lot slower.

I'm glad to hear you're moving up in the world! Judging from some of your youtube videos (hard to see that much when you're not in the drivers seat) you should do well in wheel to wheel.

I've never autox, so I'm not at all qualified to comment on that. I've just heard people bitching about Ottawa's scene not being what it used to be. (too many people, too much time spent marshalling, not enough runs)

Back on topic though, any updates on the car?

Ottawa has one of the best AutoX scenes out there. MCO hosts great events - last year we got between 6 and 8 runs almost every time. Despite the lot deteriorating over time, we often sell out our events - I think that's a pretty good sign

Anyways - the car's been pretty stagnant this week. Started on the passenger side door bars (X-brace) but haven't finished it yet. Had to work on the new car to get it ready for today's race.

Going out of town on business this week too, so I won't have any updates until next weekend!

I'd love to know who and what car you're talking about. Although I guess if he noticed me it's a good sign

I heard some story about my buddy Kevin racing you, I think in his E46? Maybe his E30.
