I think it is just apperance only.

Skirt kit + wheels + maybe interior difference ie sport seats over comfort seats.

the badge on the side of the moulding is the M badge.
i am not sure about the differences between the mtechnik and and stuff. but here is what i have....

front m bumper with lip and fogs along with scoops from the vents leading up to the air box i believe.

side skirts and side mouldings with m bagdge also m3 mirrors

rear valance and m spoiler and double tip exhaust.
it has red clear oem tails and smoked oem side markers and corners are clear all bearing oem markings.
says 325i M on it

car looks a tiny bit lower then the other stock e36's i have seen yet the suspension appears to be lower.

the rims are m wheels aswell,

interior wise the car looks stock but i have never owned another e36 for me to compare it that much.

is there anyway to varyfiy this through the bmw network??
another reason why i believe this is authentic (mteknik or m package or whatever it may be) is because the owner i bought it from is about 50 years old and the guy had no interested in the car to have it modified. It still had the factory radio in it.

Could have been a 325 that a previous owner put all the M peices onto, Which is commn to do, my 325is came with an M front bumper and now has DSII M3 rims.

What year is the car?

The fact that you say it says 325 M on it, means it isn't legit. There is NO such thing as a 325 M.

Someone put the badge on it themselves.

the owner i bought it from is the original owner. He told me he bought it from the dealer that way. He didnt remember much about the transaction since it was bought in 1994 he said.

Yup it's possible. That would make it an "M-Technik" version.

The only M cars in 94 were the eurospec ones that were litteraly slipped through a customs lope hole. North American M3's did not arrive till 95, so chances are it's a 325i that had the body peices put on. It's all good though still probley a sweet ride

You can try putting the vin into www.realoem.com and see what comes up
