528 Vanos seals DIY?

So in the next month or so I will be tackling replacement of the vanos seals. Has anyone done this themselves? I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have access so any of the tools i need, I was just wondering if this was a smart move or should I just take it into a shop? Any other advice on the matter is greatly appreciated (things to look for, other parts to replace etc.) If anyone with experience is willing to help out I'd greatly appreciate it, obviously beer and dinner is on me.

thanks
Franco

I've done both single and double vanos seals. The double vanos ones are easier in the fact that you don't need the special tools that the single vanos cars require (cam locking tools etc.)
Definitely a DIY job.

I changed mine in 2008. Fairly simple DIY. Just print the instructions from the site and you are good to go.

When I replaced the vanos seals, I also replaced the valve cover gasket, thermostat, rad and water pump. (normal wear items for an E39)

Good Luck! You will be happy when done. The engine makes more torque under 3500 RPM.

David, I think this only applies to the I6, for the 540s I think we're SOL. http://www.beisansystems.com/
