E93 Reliability

I’ve been offered to take over the end of a lease buy back of an 2008 E93 with around 30k on odometer. It’s very tempting given the low mileage, however I’m a bit worry about the reliability of the car, especially on its hardtop.

A couple of questions:
- There haven’t been any issues with the hardtop during the lease, should I be worried for the years to come? I’ve read several common issues of stuck and leaks for E93 and it sounds like a lot of maintenance.
- Can I buy warranty from BMW on a vehicle before the buy back? If so, would the warranty cover the bumper to bumper like the original manufacturer warranty? How much should I expect to pay?

Any other tips?

You're better off checking www.e90post.com/forums for more information. Many more active E9x users on there. My father has an 07 335i vert with no problems on the hardtop yet. During pressurized car washes (which the manual prohibits you from using) there can be some small drip on the front windows where the roof latches meet the A-pillar locks.

As for the extended warranty, I can't help ya there. Perhaps give the dealer a call and inquire if it's current lease is through BMW Financial, would it be eligible for extended warranty coverage?

If you want BMW CPO warranty, you will have to go through a dealership to pick up the car. The car will have to be inspected at the dealer where the transaction will take place when the current owner drops it off after his/her lease contract ends. It could cost between $1500-$3000. If you haven't inquired, the dealer will also charge you $1000 for administering the lease buy out.

Just so that I'm clear, if I want to take the car and buy more warranty from BMW, I'll need to pay the following

Cost of Buy Back + Admin Fee ($1000) + CPO Inspect Fee ($1500 - $3000) + Warranty Price ($???)

You're essentially buying a certified series from the dealer (that's what the CPO inspection will do = Extended Warranty).

So, your costs would only be

Buy Back Cost + Admin Fee + CPO (Extended Warranty) Inspection Fee
