Purchasing new parts online ?

Where do you guys purchase (new) parts online ?

I am looking for a place with an online catalog and where shipping won't be a complete ripoff.

I thought about purchasing from www.bavauto.com in the states, they have the most common parts cataloged with prices and all, but I fear the UPS guys will be ripping me off with brokers fees and what have you.

Nothing like coming home from work to find a box full'o parts waiting for you - and not having to spend time during business hours on the phone to arrange it.

I usually just fire off an e-mail to EAC tuning. I know Chigga has been dealing with them for some stuff too. My last order was a little slow but I got everything at a great price and I wasn't in a rush...

I often use http://www.bimmerspecialist.com/ (E36 M3 & R53 Mini) and http://www.autopartsonlinecanada.com/ (M3, R53 & Acura) for OEM replacement parts. Prices are quoted in Cdn $, no additional brokerage fees.

I've used bavauto.com too with good results.

The Bimmerspecialist site seems to be down at the moment, but autopartscanada looks like a good option. I'm just starting to look around, but I like to see stuff like 3 different manufactures of oil filter for example. Will see how extensive their catalog is, since they are not a bmw-only specialist.

When you used bavauto, can you recall how hefty the brokerage fee was ?

I was also looking at Pelicanparts in the US - they can ship via USPS - am I right to believe the brokerage fee will be less with the USPS/Post Canada ?

Thanks,
Morten (New to Canada, new to North America)

I buy from Pelican parts most of the time, some times I get the parts sent to my home via USPS (low brokerage fees and sometimes no taxes) and if I need the parts in a rush I have them sent to CanAm Mailbox rentals in Niagra Falls NY (drive down and pick em up). Example: Got a $192 rad for my 540 in 4 days.

For simple stuff online in Canada Autopartsway is great, over $75 free shipping.

Lately, before I order online I've been checking with one of the Max Sponsors... Maranello BMW, send them a message they give out some good discounts on BMW parts in comparison to the other BMW dealers... even if the price is still higher than shopping in the US they are well worth considering and they have been good to our Max forum, that to me is worth something.

UPS brokerage fees are based on the declared purchase value of goods (on the shipper's invoice) and can be found here:

Thanks for the tips!

If only I was able to understand the UPS charges. The brokerage fee, ok got it. But don't know what to make of the bond fees section...

Sorry, can't help you with the bond fee question. I pre-pay the brokerage, import duty and Cdn sales tax by contacting UPS when the shipment reaches the import stage at Canada Customs which you know by tracking the package using the UPS website.

Thanks for the info but I don't see any value here, so I avoid using UPS or Fedex.

Thing is, bavauto only ships by UPS... I will try to avoid them for now, will try to use the Canadian webshops but might consider Pelicanparts which has a lot more selection and lower prices - might make sense for a large order.
