Items to check on e46 05 325i

Hi guys,

Im going to be buying a 05 325i this weekend if the test drive goes well.

New to this forum and have spent some time trying to research typical maintenance issues with E46's.

I've come across the Vanos issue. Does anyone have some good suggestions how to determine if there is currently a vanos issue with the car. I've read usually sluggish / stagnating performance around the 3000 rpm range along with poor lowend torque... which I may not be able to recognize being new to the car having nothing to compare it to.

Any other suggestions for things to have a good look at?

Cheers

After I bought my 325xi, I found there were a whole slew of problems with the e46, not my car in particular, but this generation. A big problem I hear is the subframe tearing... Others are listed here:

commonly the engine sounds like theres marbles in it, but im not sure if always. But if theres a Vanos problem you'll know when you drive it, as for me, i changed my fuel pump twice...and the problems keep coming, and i baby my car very much, good luck

Thanks for the input. Everything checked out well on the car, it was meticulously taken care of. For a car with 100K on it, it was very clean with all service records and all preventative maintenance done. Very happy with the car so far.
