Off-set

I have an 03 530i, with M package. It has staggered wheels, fronts are 235-45-17, rears are 255-40-17.

I'm thinking of buying winter wheels/tires for it. How do I get the "offset" ? Is it written somewhere on the wheel ??

Usually, it is written IS and a number or ET and a number.

According to my catalogue...

Regular 530i has +20 offset, 8" wide wheels.

M5 has +45 offset in front and +25 offset in rear, 8" wide in the front, 9" wide in the rear.

And offset is relative to the width of the wheel.

But for winter, you don't have to run staggered.

The numbers can be embossed anywhere on the wheel depending on the design. usually, it's on the back, near the mounting face. Sometimes it's in the front near the centercap area. It all depends on the design of the wheel.

Well, if your M Package has M5 wheels then just go by the M5 offset I listed. Of course if you didn't buy your car new, then anyone could have changed wheels at any time, or if the dealer had different stock at the time, they could have changed wheels too....

M5s never had a +45 offset, they were also +20 to +26. And the wheels were 8" and 9.5" wide.

In any case, you're looking for 16" and up, +20 offset or close to it. The centerbore also has to be E39-specific, so 74.1mm.
