5 Series Feeler - 2003 BMW 540i M, 6spd

Hi all,

I'm considering selling my 2003 540i M tech Package.

Please excuse the low-quality pics...

This car has been well maintained through Atto's BMW in Ottawa. Please feel free to check this claim with Otto's by quoting the VIN in the pics. The car has only 92,000 Km, clean history and is in GREAT shape. No modification, no dash lights, power rear sunshades and original paint.

I'm only the second owner of this car and have put only about 1000 km on it since purchase in early summer of this year (2010). You may ask why am I selling this car this soon. Well, I have another 540i M-package ... the difference is that this one is 6spd and sterling grey while the other one is auto and black. In addition, I was actually looking for an E39 M5 when I came across this car. 24 hrs later...two 540s were parked in my garage and no M5....

I desperately want the M5 and can't make the excuse of buying one to the boss before selling this car. The boss of course loves the automatic 540i so this one got to go if I wish to have the beast.

I maybe wrong (please correct me if I am) but only 1260 2003 M 540i were brought to North America. Only 60 made it to Canada.... out of the 60 only a handful came in 6spd. With the popular and much-loved metallic sterling grey, this car is hard to come buy especially with this kind of low mileage and condition.

The only 'bad" thing I'd like to mention is that the engine splash shield is broken (the black plastic piece under the M-bumper) which is common on all E-39s ... an easy cosmetic fix.

I'd like to sell the car for $21K...please let me know if there are any interests out there so that I may sell and begin my search for the M5.

the last year for an M540 E39 with under 100k. Those are getting quite rare.

There are way more than 60 2003 540's in Canada. Almost all 2003 540i's were sold with the M-Executive package. Few manuals though, breaks my heart.

Sterling Grey 540i-M stick is one of the all-time best BMWs made. Whoever gets it will love it.

I agree that more than 60 were brought to Canada, but howmany were m-packs with the mtech suspention and bumpers? Anyone has a source? My source is a sales rep at Otto's.

Most 2003 540i's were sold with the M Executive package once it got the large 18" M Pars for 2003. A lot of 2002's were sold with the M package, but they had crappy 17s.

I'm a sales rep in London, and head office can't extract sales data for specific equipment configurations within models. I know because I tried to find out how many Competition Package M3's came into Canada in 2006, so your sales rep in Ottawa doesn't have figures of how many 540's were specifically equipped with M Sport or M Executive.

Whatever the figure, the 2003 Sterling Grey 6 speed version is my all time fave 5 series. If your car is in good shape, I don't even know if I'd give it up for an M5 unless the M5 was perfect. Enjoy the hell outta whichever car you decide on.

Good luck with the sale, I can't believe you are selling it already.
You might have a hard time finding an M5 with same mileage and condition as this car, something to consider!

I know, I know...I was not in the market for another 540, but the condition, 6spd and the sterling grey made it hard to resist.

hmmm how come the seats are not sports seats but comfort... ithought all m sport were sports? special order perhaps?

I belive that the 540 comes with comfort seat unless you request (make a special order) sport seats. I could be wrong.

Those are sports seats, the thigh bolster just is not extended forward. You can clearly see the switch that extends the thigh bolster.

Correct.

ALL M Sports came with the M steering wheel, M on the bottom of the door frame and sport seats.
