How come no compact e46 in canada ?

So I've been looking on some different German forums looking for parts for my e36 and I stumbled onto this. My question is how come North America never got the E46 Compact version ? I think that would have been an awesome addition to the BMW of North America, how come wait till the 1-series ? why not bring it out before ? Personally I think it would make the BMW market stronger and make a very nice transition to the 1-series. I don't even want to start about the diesel engines they have...

This is a 2004 320TD.

I dont think the E36 Ti was a hot seller in NA, lots of people here buy a BMW because of image/status...and a "simple hatchback" does not fit the picture! Dont get me started on diesel engines, if Benz and VW could do it since the 70's, wtf was BMW waiting for!!!

I think they wanted to perfect it, that's how I see it. It seems like every German made company wants to be unique with their engine building, try to out do each other by one. I'm just Mad that there slowly coming into Canada now... as a new marketing scheme, while Europe had them for years now.
I just want some answers how come BMW won't bring their models under a different brand ? like Nissan has Infinity, Honda has Acura. BMW could have something so we could have more options.

btw.... Mini does not count, every time I see one I think of Mr. Bean

Status ? in my family everybody buys German cars cause they are more reliable. Sure you sometimes need to spend money on preventive maintenance but sit in a 15 year old Honda and sit in a 15 year old BMW. Can't compare that...

+1. I've always been a fan of the Ti's, but unfortunatly we didn't get to see the E46 versions here. It's one of those cars you either love or hate.

Nobody bought E36 318tis so it didn't make sense to federalize an E46 ti that few people would buy. Besides the E46 ti is hideously ugly, we didn't miss out.

Bmw should put this one into the closet and burn any evidence of it ever existing.
