My radiator's time has come
...so now I need a radiator, a thermostat and the radiator container for the black 540.
Any one knows where to get parts for something like this in Ottawa for a good price, and how much will it cost me for each part? What about labour..how many hours?
Can any do this on here? Will pay of course.

I also want to add that I tried to move the car a little today to tow it but although I was pressing on the gas pedle, the car didn't take the gas and it of course didn't move. Why did this happen..is it a computer thing?

How many kilometers on that car?
If I were you I'd also replace every hose/part related to cooling system.
You can get good prices at www.autopartsway.ca , free shipping on orders over $150.

Take this opportunity to replace Rad, expansion tank, hoses, water pump, belts, fan clutch. Ahhhh 540's, so predictable.
Parts, +1 for www.autopartsway.ca or www.autopartsonlinecanada.com. 90% of the time you'll have the parts next day.
For just the Rad and expansion tank, it's less than an hour to change. Seriously easy. If you're doing the water pump too it's a little more work.
As for why the car wouldn't move, That's a weird one. Did the car overheat or anything?

Adam, are you hinting that you can do the job? If so, pm me with your number to discuss the details.

Must have over heated & car wouldn't move because it went into the engine fail-safe program. BMW save of the day

I'd gladly help out with the rad and expansion tank, that's easy. But I have no desire to do the water pump, it's a pain in the ass, and really don't feel like doing that again.

nah, that can't be it. Even in engine failsafe the car will move normally, just with reduced power and fuel mileage, Mine's gone into that before. Plus the 540 tells you straight up when it's in engine failsafe right on the OBC. It comes up with the message "Engine Failsafe Prog". Sounds to me like something else is going on.

How much do these water-cooled alternators go for anyway?
Did all 540is came with it or just some years?
