Talking Canadians: we're polite even when we riot

Also watch the guy in the brown shirt. He's about to go in, sees what's happening and just turns back.

Yea, I think Bell should give buddy a free phone for doing that. Not many people step up to the plate and do something that they could easily turn their backs to.

Plus I don't think you can unlock a CDMA phone so the guy wouldn't be able to use it.

That's awesome. It's really nice to see that there are people that still do the right thing. Lets me know there is still a small hope for humanity.

friend of a friend of mine works at that shop, and been told with no lies that store employees were told to lock away (as in take somewhere else not just in cabinets) everything valuable and if to leave out boxes out to empty them and place dummy phones in them.

They knew exactly what was coming. Guv plays everyone dum in this city and I hate it. They keep doing it over and over knowing people here are willing to bend in any angle and in any position.

The only thing that will cure this city is a real protest ran by individuals sick of this BS that we are going through everyday. Harper and his stupid plan.

Police admit no five-metre rule existed on security fence

Toronto — The Canadian Press Published on Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2010 11:33AM EDT Last updated on Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2010 5:49PM EDT

Toronto's police chief is admitting there never was a five-metre rule that had people fearing arrest if they strayed too close to the G20 security perimeter.

Civil libertarians were fuming after hearing Friday that the Ontario cabinet gave police the power to stop and search anyone coming within five metres of the G20 fences in Toronto for a one week period.

However, the Ministry of Community Safety says all the cabinet did was update the law that governs entry to such things as court houses to include specific areas inside the G20 fences — not outside.A ministry spokeswoman says the change was about property, not police powers, and did not include any mention of a zone five metres outside the G20 security perimeter.

When asked Tuesday if there actually was a five-metre rule given the ministry's clarification, Chief Bill Blair smiled and said, “No, but I was trying to keep the criminals out.”

Premier Dalton McGuinty still hasn't explained why cabinet passed the regulation change in secret, and then kept it secret.

Even though it wasn't accurate, the public was left to believe the province had given officers the power to demand identification and detain anyone within five metres of the G20 site.

All weekend there were reports of police stopping people throughout downtown Toronto — often in areas nowhere near the G20 zone — demanding identification and to search bags and backpacks.
