Ok. Hopefully back on track. Sidelined by the honey-do list and back pain resulting fron that. Garage is now heated, so I'm more motivated to get in there.
So, being a bit of a lowering spring whore, I ripped out my Sachs kit in search of lower and stiffer. Bought a set of K.A.W's off EBAY a while back and compared them to my Sachs/Eibach springs when I removed them. I could compress the front coils with my hands on the K.A.W.'s but not so much with the Sachs/Eibach, which I felt were soft.
Then I heard about these:
http://www.fk-automotive.org.uk/webs..._index=1100066
FK is supposedly KW's budget brand. Made in Germany, and apparently harder than H&R, but sit lower (75mm front and 40mm rear). Had to order them direct from Germany.
We shall see.

He looks disappointed, doesn't he?
Here's what's going on in the next few weeks (RE760's). Got a crazy deal through a friend. 245/40/18 front, 275/35/18 rear.

Yeah, they're et. 22 in the back. Will space, roll and pull if needed.

Hey Mark. I tore into my donor car pretty good last night to get the pedals and the tilt/telescopic steering column out, so I should have that dash ready to go pretty soon for you if you're still interested.
Were/are both your cars manuals? If so you might have something I need - if you have it to spare, that is...

Hi Nick. I definitely still need the dash. The car that I wrecked is manual but the new shell is automatic, so I'm swapping all my 5-speed bits over to the new one. I will have only automatic stuff to spare. What did you need?

This thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...e+light+switch seems to indicate that on the manual cars there's a little harness for the reverse lights somewhere inside the shifter console??? I swear that the plug for the reverse light switch was integrated in the engine harness on my manual 540i, but I sold the harness already! I'm thinking it might have been different on the earlier/6-cylinder cars?? I don't remember removing anything like what's pictured there. Look familiar to you?
embarrassing edit: in an earlier post I mentioned removing the tilt/telescoping steering column from my donor car. Just found out that there is no tilt! The stalk has been broken off since I bought the car so now that I know it's only power-telescopic, not worth it! But damn, you'd think these things would have tilt steering....

New rubber...
Finally got my RE760's. Very aggressive looking. Large shoulder blocks. Can't wait to drive on them!

Pulled her out of storage this weekend. Fired right up. Got the e-test done today. Barely passed. HC is right at the limit. Phew. Buys me some time to drive around in it before the transplant. Suspension and brakes are up next, then I'll get it safetied.

Front FK's and Billies in! Test fit new wheels!
Ok, it's been a while. Wedding this, bankrupt that. Ok, not yet. Finally got a weekend to myself to get the car back together.
Front FK's are in. They are suposed to lower 75mm. I haven't driven on them yet. They need to settle a bit.
Also test-fitted the new wheels. 18x8 et. 20 and 18x9 et. 22 from an E39. Tires are 245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. Looks meaty. Loving the concave.
