i've been running 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n and unlocked with ultrasn0w for at least 5 months.

Dont upgrade to 3.1.3 if you need unlock.

www.spiritjb.com is out. Its a ONE ****ING BUTTON unlock. You plug your phone in and press unlock.

(just in case this got anyone interested in jailbreaking, once you do jailbreak your phone, you'll need to add this repo in cydia
(cydia->manage->sources->edit->add
cydia.hackulo.us (for free appstore apps, now search in cydia for installous and install it, its the cracked appstore)

and
sinfuliphonerepo.com (for free cydia apps)

btw i've heard from reliable sources that 3GS can run 4G software. Obviously some hardware features will be missing.

I am aware of how easy it is to unlock. I am on 3.1.2 as well jail broken and everything, with navigon:p but do u remember how long it took them to release the jailbreak for 3.1, it was a pain.
You're telling me it's easy, yet you're warning me against upgrading to 3.1.3.

For a while, blackrain was only available as a tethered jailbreak on late 3GS models and had lots of wifi and Bluetooth issues. It would be annoying to have to plug your iPhone in to your laptop everytime you reboot your phone.

Yes, OS 4 will be available for the 3G and 3GS (no need for reliable sources, it says so at the apple website), but the 3G won't get multitasking officially ( but u'll probably be able to enable the official multitaskig using some cydia program)

Anyway, the whole point of this post was to let ppl know that the factory unlock option is available, feel free to do as you wish.

and i'm just saying you can get a refurbed one from rogers for like 300$ and unlock it.

i like cheap phones, makes me feel less bad when inevitably smash them.
