I'm new to this forum, but I figured I'd introduce myself by showing you what I've been up to for the past year.
Last year I started racing my ex-daily driver - a 1992 325i - in the Motorsport Club of Ottawa's Autocross series. This was my first car, and I drove it on the street for 3 yerars before I decided to buy something a little more recent. I shamefully tried to sell it, and gladly it didn't go, so it became my track rat. Initially to help with costs, I split the car with one of my friends and we raced together, but last winter I bought him out to continue the project on my own.
To prep the car for the first event last year, I upgraded to HP+ brakes, and some interior weight reduction. I already had a CAI and front strut tower brace, and was running on all seasons. The goal was to start out on a budget and learn the car before starting to upgrade too much.
Well things kinda snowballed from there: next mod was a tire upgrade - I went for the Kumho Ecsta XS, and then shortly after that I got a good deal on used shocks and springs, so I picked up a set of Bilstein Tourings and an Eibach Sportline lowering kit.
The season went really well, and I had a chance to do some lapping too at Calabogie and at Shannonville. Needless to say, I'm now an addict
So last winter, the project really started unfolding. This was the first time I had ever worked on a car, so I learnt as a went, and tons of people helped me through the process.
Here's what I've done to the car so far:
-Weight reduction: removal of: interior, sunroof, A/C, heatercore
-Brakes: HP+ pads, ATE superblue, ABS delete, remade all hard lines with an in-line Summit Racing adjustable rear proportioning valve, UUC stainless steel brake line kit
-Suspension: Cosmo front strut tower brace, Eibach Sportline springs, Bilstein Touring shocks, Meyle HD rear strut mounts, UUC Swaybars, UUC FCABs, UUC RTABs, BW adjustable RCAs, extended lower strut bolts & washers for front camber
-Frame: X-brace, PF Black subframe bushings, BW subframe & RTA reinforcement plates
-Drivetrain: Cosmo CAI, cat delete, fan delete (SPAL electric fan installed), 80degC themostat, UUC Stage II flywheel & performance organic clutch, UUC race engine & tranny mounts, BW aluminum diff bushings, UUC EVO3 short shifter kit with DSSR, UUC stainless steel clutch line, Edge Motorworks ODB with Autometer Oil Temp, oil pressure, and water temp gauges
-Wheels & tires: 17x9 D-Force LTW5s, Dunlop Star Specs 255/40R17 (brand new), bolt-to-stud conversion, 15mm front spacer
