Thumbs down Overheating - Help.

Hi Guys,

car: 2000 323ci
A week ago my car started overheating while i was driving. The value seal right beside the coolant cap came of and it was steaming. I might have drove no more then a minute or two before i started noticing white smoke coming out of the hood (steam).

Just that morning I had topped off the coolant. As for now, I replaced the value seal hose and topped of the engine ...and started it. There are no bubbles coming out of the coolant cap. However, as the car is starting to get warm, there seems to be a huge bubble coming every 3 seconds (repetitive and constant) I guess the pressure build is what popped my value seal.

So what should my next step be ? Mechanic is leaning towards a head gasket needing to be replace but I wanted your opinion on it.

Compression test ?

SIde note: there is oil leak coming from the bottom left of the engine cover. any relations??

What other things can I check.

yeah start with basic things like compression test check fan if it's working and have the water pump looked at. All hoses if any leaks or pinced.
