It's called an inspection - tell me whats wrong with the car so I know where I stand. If it's simple work I'll take care of it myself. Either way the shop is making money just to throw the car up on the hoist and look around. Whats the big deal?
What's wrong with trying to do it yourself? You learn more about the car and build confidence knowing that you can fix things on you own instead of relying on shops that don't give a shit about you or your car.
