As some of you may have read, my fuel pump died this weekend stranding me 400km from home. Instead of replacing it with another stock pump, I took the opportunity to upgrade to a pump that will be able to support my fuel needs once I go turbo, which im planning to do this winter.
Luckily for me, a friend happened to have his stock and low km WRX STi pump sitting in his basement, which he was kind enough to give to me.
Figured id post a little how to, since this pump is basically a direct swap, and readily available for cheap used after STi owners have done fuel pump upgrades.
I wont get too in depth, there are plenty of how to swap fuel pump threads out there, im just going to explain a few points specific to this pump, and give some pictures.
First, a comparison between Stock STi, and Stock 318 pumps (STi on left)
Second, STi installed on 318 sending unit
The only "mods" required for this are to solder the plug for the STi pump onto the terminals of the bulkhead fitting, and trim the rubber bottom piece that comes with the STi pump so it fits in the cutout on the bottom of the hanger.
Its that easy! I now have 190 LPH of fuel flow in 15 minutes of work.
Hope this helps some people out, I know my write up skills aren't the best.
