E30 Engine Swap Choices

So im looking into purchasing an E30 project.
However all the ones i come across are in need of engine work.
Im looking to make some power out of the car, so ive been looking into the option swapping engines.
My question is What choices of engines do i have? and what is the difficulty and price each?

ive looked into the 5.0L E30. seems like alot of work.
maybe a toyota or nissan 6 Cyl?
or another BMW engine?

Thanks in advance.

Your only limit here is time and $$$$...Anything can be made to fit!!! You should see what your budget is, and how much work you are willing to do! The choices are almost endless...

im new to this forum, does anyone have a swapped E30?
or know any links to info on swaps.

i would like to do something common and relatively easy.

S52 if you want to stay NA and the car will be pretty quick. You can even throw a supercharger on it down the road if you want some more power.

M52B28 can be had for about 1200$, youll need a modified brake booster or an IX booster, theres a bunch of information over on http://www.r3vlimited.com and http://www.e30tech.com

he said $1500...why would you suggest an m3 engine, or a bmw v8 (do u know how much customizing is involved with that swap?!?!)

M30 is a power house. may be old...but thats why people refresh parts....

M5x is the best way to go. They can be found for very cheap now, and the swap is almost entirely parts bin.

If you're adventurous and are either one or have access to a fabricator of some kind, an LSx/t56 swap is thoroughly documented (manual with all details and drawings for stuff like motor mounts available for $130).

I dont see no power house, all this engines have 500k km and for swap is dificult to find parts and it weight much more than M50
M30B35, 155 kW (211PS) @ 5700, 305 N·m (225 ft·lbf) @ 4000
M50B25, 141 kW (192 hp) @ 5900, 250 N·m (184 ft·lbf) @ 4200

That is only my opinion

M30 : 315lb
M50 : 299lb

Only 16 pounds difference between the two motors and the M30 has +18hp and +55Nm tq. The extra power can easily accelerate the extra weight and then some.

That being said, as much as I love the old big 6's, I'd probably still go M50 because M30's are starting to become more sparse.
