taking apart help

hey guys quick questions about the e30.

1 - how do you unhook the front harnesses for the doors. I see a big white clip thing but no idea how to unhook it.

2 - how did you get the trunk off or more specifically how did you get the trunk light wire out, the only thing i can think of now is to cut the connector off. the wire is wedged between the trunk metal and the reinforcements.

3 - i have rust on the floors, any one know where i can get the metal sheeting, the cheaper the better. i've read 1.2mm is the correct thickness (or atleast thats the number that comes to mind.)

thanks

1. Peel the rubber boot back, there's a clip to pull and the harness unplugs.

2. Disconnect the battery, pull the light, unplug the wire from the light and pull the wire though from the hinge area.

3. Yellow pages will have lots of metal places I would guess, but I'm not sure. Your location doesn't reveal where you're from, so ?

Pull back the weather stripping, remove hood latch, remove speaker cover, remove speaker, reach in and wiggle the two door connectors apart... or pull harder. Kind of a PITA.

the door clip is always a pain; since moisture usually gets in and corrosion also sets in. You may want to spray lube in between the mating surface. Then take a set of needle nose or a couple vise grips- hold the tabs moving them together and wiggle side to side until it starts to back away. Eventually it will slide out. don't be surprised if you have a few green pins in there. That is corrosion. I had to replace all my pins at some point in my car. Hope this isn't the case with yours. Or as Scott mentioned you could try going in from the floor kick panel speaker side.

If your shell is really that rusty, you might spend more getting it rust free than spending a couple grand on importing one. Something to think about.

Elroy, try Metals Plus in Whitby, that's where I got mine. They have a cheap off cut section in the back. I asked them what thickness to get, I think it was 20-22 guage or so...
