2002 330ci Steptronic Confusion
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 2002 330ci. At the time of the purchase, the car was missing the shifter knob (not really relevant).
However, you know how on a NORMAL steptronic, we have:
P
R
N
-
/ D
+
Well on this car, it's like this:
R
N
D
S4
-
/ S3
+
Yes, the P is actually R and this is what I have to put it on when I want to turn off the car and be able to pull out the key from ignition.
On a NORMAL car, it would be not possible to go past D, but on this one there's also S4, and S3. When it's on D I can't push the knob to the left to enter manual mode. I can only push it the left when it's on S3 but of course when I put it to the left it doesn't enter manual mode, it's still on S3.
Leaving aside all the comments about how stupid I am for purchasing a car if this type of issue, the car does run fine in R, D, S4, S3, etc.
I contacted the seller, and asked if he has put an older transmission on the car (like a 1999) one with no steptronic, and he replied saying that didn't. I don't have a reason to suspect that he is lying. He says he was told my his mechanic and it would be a quick fix to return it to regular mode of operation.
If you are knowledgeable to this topic, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks in advance for reading.
