No Start Issue (Part 2!)
Hi guys,
My car started up today, then died when it was running.
I wasn't able to restart it.
So, we tried the following:
1. Checked the rotor, it seemed ok.
2. Checked for a spark, didn't get one. (pulled the wire, grounded it to a shock tower.)
3. Checked for fuel, weren't getting any. (pulled the fuel line, it was dry)
4. Pulled the fuel pump, hooked it to a battery, it is working fine.
5. Checked both wires to the pump, one showed electricity, the other didn't.
My basic question is: what would stop power from going to the fuel pump and also the distributor?

Where is it located? In the middle or on the left of the three relays?

Also, would that affect the lack of spark?
Ok, I also switched the two relays that were the same under the cover around, still no hum from the fuel pump...

In the engine bay on the left strut tower. One is the main relay which gives power to the ECU, give it a few taps with the ignition on. One is also a fuel pump relay.
A bentley manual would be useful in this case, I believe it tells you how to test for power at the fuel pump, but I can't remember the procedure off the top of my head

Have you inspected the main 50 amp fuse? If this fuse goes, the fuel pump will not operate, nor will you have any spark, the engine will still crank over while operating the starter, but will not start. The fuse is located on the positive lead about a foot away from the battery, you will have to cut the wire casing and spread it open to get to the fuse.

Ok guys, problem solved. Not sure exactly what caused the no spark issue, but I replaced all 3 relays, and the car started right up, and ran fine. I also tried a few other starts, no trouble at all. If I had to guess, I would say that Trevor was definitely right about the fuel pump relay, and maybe there was a problem with another relay as well. Funny, I thought this was a bigger problem than just plugging in some relays...for the first time, an issue solved that took less work than expected...lol
