Earthquake!

I'm @ work on the 4th floor of a 4 story building, and the building swayed to the point where standing was difficult! Drawers opened, stuff fell off my shelf, etc.

Exciting! :o

Where were you, and did you feel it?

I'm on the fourth floor on my building as well No real issues, except confusing messages whether to evacuate or not.

I was in French training, and the teacher asked "how big do you think that was?" I said "Ahh, 'bout a 1.5. Nothing big."

There is a reason that I am not a seismologist, I guess.

I have been listening to the police scanner and fire since it happened and there was kaos downtown for sometime. broken high rise windows, big time cracks, gas leaks, lots of engineers will be in Ottawa for the next few days lol. I'm glad I wasn't in a high building because its a very helpless feeling. Let the aftershocks begin!!

As much as I enjoyed it, it does make you feel very helpless. But once I realized it wasn't a doozy, I had fun. A coworker said to me afterwards "WTF, you had this huge grin the whole time during the earthquake?!"

Ha!

Felt it in Toronto, everything was shaking in my office, the plant almost fell from the ceiling. Very scary

+1 on feeling helpless. However it was a cool thing to experience

3rd floor of our building - pictures fell off walls, water was spilt out of half full glasses.

Crazy!

In my single storey office in Mississauga I thought I heard the AC unit on the roof squeaking like a failing bearing. Didn't think of it much as I just came in from the outside and had my head planted in front of a fan to cool down. Folks in the office thought it was me walking on the roof doing stuff.

I didnt feel anything either. We were clowning around near an apartment building in the area and a lady came down and asked "did you guys feel that".. and all confused we answered.. "feel what?". I guess most people that felt the quake were in buildings. Another residents from the same building on the 20th floor were shook and said that the building was moving back and forth for 15 seconds. Funny thing is we were right under the building and felt absolutely jack.

Second story of a million year old three story building dt. I thought it was pretty cool until I started to wonder if the building would crumble. Fortunately it was over before I hit the stairs

I believe the Richter scale is logarithmic, and increasing the number by one (5 to 6) doubles its strength, so a 7 would have been catastrophic. Like, death and stuff. And broken things.
