look at your owners manual...it'll tell you the right weight for the temperature you'll be in. then pick a full synthetic oil with that weight. i prefer castrol oil...but others may say use mobil 1 or other brands.

i used 5w30 in my e30 only for the winter.....used 10w40 in the summer i think.....thats why you should check you owners manual for the proper weight to use.

Not for the M54.

The 3 I listed are all BMW LL-01 approved and the are the easiest to find.

The dealer 5W30 is ok, store bought 5w30 is not. The manual is a little confusing.

For the m54 you can pretty well ignore weight. As long as it is LL01 approved you are fine.

My M54 drank the dealer bought Castrol at a rate of 1liter per 1500km! I switched to some German oil RMP carries and I can say that after 2500km it hasn't burned a full liter yet!

PM RMP to get the details I really dont remember the name. You might have to look around a bit to find a supplier in Ottawa. But its worth it, these motors love it.

Pretty sure it's Motul. You won't find it in stores. RMP is the place to go.

The best oil that is available at local places is the German Made castrol syntec 0w30.
