My gas usage the past few months.
I use a app on my iPhone called "Gas Cubby" to track my gas usage and thought I would share this with others on here.
I have a 2004 325i. With almost 97K on it.
On 2010-01-11 I installed a K&N filter to replace the standard BMW air-intake filter.

I haven't had the car a Looong time, but did noticed that when the filter was replaced it gave me a good 1L per/100 off the bat. But based on the cars display I'm right now getting about 9.3L/100 on average and when refilling the taken I've had it say I can get about 733km on the tank. My driving is a mix of 60% highway and 40% city.

Your on par with most E46's that are well taken care of; you may however want to reconsider the K&N, independent test show they don't filter very well and can contribute to premature MAF failures (oiled filters).

The cautionary post that K&N put out was about people adding excessive amounts of oil to the filter gauze after the 1st cleaning.
A regular cleaning of your air intake system, including your mass air flow sensor can be done at a regular interval.

True (although not what I was referring to); but why make more work for yourself? MAF is a pretty sensitive and expensive component to risk unnecessary handling of.
What I was referring to was a few years ago an S.A.E lab tested the K&N filter median and determined that it was inferior to conventional non oiled filters (poorer filtration and air flow); the paper was never formally retracted but K&N's lawyers had it removed from SAE's online database and online publications (wish I had saved a copy of it).
