80% of 1-series owners believe their car is FWD

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/23/t...mw-1-series-o/

"As we reported earlier, BMW is planning to bring front-wheel-drive vehicles to market in the near future, and the automaker is worried that it might confuse customers by adding these new products to the rear-drive-only lineup.

Guess not."

Brilliant, BMW, keep watering down that lineup... "M"-cars with no manual transmission offered, the absurd GT hatchbacks, multiple trucks with roundels, FF drivetrains... diversify, diversify, diversify! Worked for GM!

(OK I shouldn't be digging on BMW, their core demographic is apparently douchebags who don't even know which wheels are driving, my values don't apply here.)

Front-wheel-drive and BMW should never be in the same sentence. They need to really re-think some of their decisions, especially with the way M cars are going, and stay true to the companies roots like Porsche has. If they want BMW engineering and fwd they can buy a Mini!

Sorry to disappoint
But the name of the game is "stay true to your share holders" maximizing the profit, Driving the cost down.
Nobody cares sticking to the roots and making amazing cars.

Here is idea BMW club gets a hold of the 51% of the BMW-AG stocks.

until then all we can do is

Some people should not own certain cars. Just when I though people could not surprise me anymore, I hear about this! hahaha. The degree of ignorance that some people live in is.....unreal.

It breaks my heart that there will be front wheel drive BMWs, as much as anyone on this board. I've never owned a front wheel drive in my life and never plan to. But who are you to criticize BMW's product strategy? You're driving a 1991 318... BMW exists by selling cars to people who actually BUY some, and clearly they are on the right path by that measure.

that we don't know. they have been on the right path, but that doesn't mean that changing to fwd cars won't be detrimental to their "path", but it could bring more customers over to them. who knows. its just like audi offers fwd and quattro. people who have no idea will buy the fwd cars. also, from what i heard the fwd will only be offered on small bmw's. who knows what new models they plan to introduce. maybe they want to compete with the A and B class benz in europe. for those who are overly worried i'm sure it will take a few years for these cars to trickle down to the north american market if at all.

True. They're on the right path to this point, but they've seen continuous improvement in sales records. So I'm confident that BMW knows what they're doing to remain successful. There's a good chance that we might not even get those FWD BMWs in North America so I'm not going to worry about any of these issues.

80% of 1 series drivers are GIRLS!!! That is why they think it is front-wheel drive! BMW should better educate buyers...problem fixed!
